Migael Scherer’s writing ranges from the personal to the practical. Her most recent works are Back Under Sail: Recovering the Spirit of Adventure (Milkweed 2003) and A Cruising Guide to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands (International Marine 2006). She is also the author of Sailing to Simplicity: Life Lessons Learned at Sea (International Marine 1999). Scherer’s first book, Still Loved by the Sun: A Rape Survivors Journal (Simon & Schuster, 1992) won a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award and a PEN/Albrand Citation for distinguished nonfiction.

Scherer’s essays and articles have appeared in Connotations, ThreesheetsNW.com, Yachting Magazine, and 48° North. She wrote reporter profiles for a journalism text and a chapter for a medical/legal text. In addition to writing, Scherer is an accomplished teacher, trainer, and speaker. Since 1990 she has worked on a collaborative project involving schools of journalism and national experts on the subject of trauma, victims and the media.

An experienced mariner, Migael Scherer and her husband lived aboard a sailboat for more than thirty-five years, cruising the Pacific Northwest, Southeast Alaska, and the 1,500-mile Inside Passage.
