David R. Montgomery is the author of Growing a Revolution (W.W. Norton, 2017), The Rocks Don't Lie: A Geologist Investigates Noah's Flood (W.W. Norton, 2012), Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations (University of California Press, 2007), and King of Fish: The Thousand-Year Run of Salmon (Westview Press, 2003). Hi is also co-author, with Anne Biklé, of The Hidden Half of Nature (W.W. Norton, 2016).  A MacArthur Fellow and a two-time winner of the Washington State Book Award, Montgomery is a professor of geomorphology in the Department of Earth & Space Sciences at the University of Washington.  His research interests include the co-evolution of the Pacific salmon and the topography of the Pacific Northwest, the environmental history of Puget Sound rivers, interactions among climate, tectonics, and erosion in shaping mountain ranges, giant glacial floods in eastern Tibet and central Alaska, and Martian topography.
