Josh Tuininga

Josh Tuininga is an author, artist, and designer based in North Bend, WA. The author of two children's books, Why Blue? (Xist Publishing 2014) and Dream On (Blue Bus Publishing, 2019); his latest project is a historical graphic novel, The Freeholder which has been awarded a 4Culture Heritage Grant. Set in the multicultural Seattle Central District of the 1940s, the Freeholder explores the unique Cover, The Freeholdersituation of Japanese and Jewish Americans living side by side during WW2.

A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Tuininga's artistic career has explored a variety of mediums including sequential art, painting and design. In 2003, he founded an art + design agency, The Medium where he continues to work as Creative Director. His work has won numerous awards including the Communication Arts Award for Excellence in Illustration and has been published in CommArts Magazine, HOW graphic design magazine, Logo Lounge, and Threadless.

You can usually find Josh working in his art studio, a 1978 converted Blue Bird school bus.
